Kleanbus appoints Dan Marcus as a corporate and strategic advisor ahead of commercial roll-out of unique ‘Repowering’ offering

Kleanbus, a UK-based company aiming to cost-effectively decarbonise the country’s bus fleet, has appointed former London Stock Exchange Senior Counsel Dan Marcus as a corporate and strategic advisor ahead of the commercial roll-out of its unique ‘Repowering’ offering this spring.

Dan previously spent almost 13 years at Tradition – one of the world’s largest interdealer brokers – responsible for the development and implementation of strategic initiatives and most recently as co-head of its EMEA business.

While at Tradition, Dan was instrumental in the creation of two consortium-based electronic trading platforms – Trad-X and ParFX – holding the role of CEO of both before becoming co-head of Tradition’s London EMEA managed business.

Dan is a qualified solicitor and served as Senior Counsel for the London Stock Exchange between 2000 and 2007, responsible for regulatory, IT, corporate and commercial legal work.

Dan joins the Kleanbus team to offer strategic and business advice on corporate development as the company continues to build its offering towards commercial roll-out this spring, working closely with technology, finance and infrastructure partners, regulators, government, and local authorities.

Founded early last year, Kleanbus offers a unique solution to eliminating diesel pollution from the UK’s bus fleet, ‘Repowering’ older diesel models by replacing the engine with a zero-emission fully electric powertrain, at a fifth of the cost and in a fraction of the time of buying a new electric bus. With its proprietary technology, Kleanbus offers a fast and efficient way towards zero-emissions, making buses cleaner, quieter and more comfortable, and more valuable assets for operators.

Joe Tighe, Co-Founder and CEO of Kleanbus comments: “Having worked with Dan for several years, and with his impressive track record in fast-paced and complex markets, I’m

certain he’ll bring real value to Kleanbus as we scale up quickly to the commercial roll-out of our unique technology. I look forward to working with Dan to further develop our offering hand in hand with our partners, stakeholders, regulators and authorities.”

Dan will advise the Kleanbus senior team made up of subject matter experts with more than 80 years’ experience in powertrain development. Last month the company further bolstered its senior team with the appointment of former TfL and GLA air quality specialist Lucy Parkin as its first Director of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG).

Dan Marcus comments: “I’m very excited to be working with Kleanbus, and I know that its expert team and unique approach will make a significant contribution to the UK’s journey towards net zero. The speed and cost effectiveness of the Kleanbus offering provides a practical carbon-free passenger transit solution, and I look forward to using my experience and skills to contribute to the success of the company moving forward.”

The recent launch of Kleanbus comes as authorities and operators continue to work towards ambitious net zero targets and addressing the mounting air quality crisis facing the UK’s towns and cities. The UK government has set a target of introducing at least 4,000 British-built zero-emission buses by 2024 through its national Bus Back Better strategy. In London, where 9,300 of the UK’s 35,000-strong bus fleet operates, TfL committed to procuring only zero-emission buses from September 2021 – and achieving a 100 per cent zero-emission bus fleet by 2034 – saving more than four million tonnes of carbon. As of September 2021, TfL had 550 zero-emission buses on the road, with 400 more on order.
